Wednesday News Roundup, August 26, 2009

newspaper_closeup_eclaireWednesday is upon us again so it’s time for another news roundup.  This week’s big news was the addition of new apps to Palm’s App Catalog.  Following that, our friends to the North are getting set as Bell Canada plans to roll out the Palm Pre there tomorrow (Thursday August 27th).  We’ll wrap up with the usual grab bag and call for submissions.

New Apps in the App Catalog

Last Thursday, Palm announced new apps for the App Catalog.  The six new apps are:  Mileage Monitor, Shabbat Shalom, Kosher2Go, ESPN Zoom, Bubbles! and Word Ace.  Mileage Monitor is a mileage monitor that allows you track your fuel usage.  Shabbat Shalom “lets you check global times for Shabbos” and Kosher2Go is a guide to kosher restaurants.  ESPN Zoom is a game where you are presented with two images, slightly different from each other.  The goal is to find the differences.  Bubbles! is a game where you must match bubbles of the same color to pop them and remove them from the screen.   Last, but not least, is Word Ace, by Self Aware Games.  Word Ace combines Texas Hold ‘Em with word games, like Scrabble®.  Here’s a review of Word Ace.  Stay tuned for more information about Self Aware Games.

Palm Pre to Land In Canada Tomorrow

futureshop-pre-adBell Mobility has been aggressively marketing the Palm Pre in preparation for the launch on the 27th.  There have been circulars, YouTube videos and TV ads.  Bell says they’re looking forward to increased revenue from Palm Pre customers.  Some have suspected there may be an OS update to coincide with the release, if so, Palm is cutting it close.  In any case, welcome to the party, Canadians!

The Rest

There have been a couple stories this week about Google, Palm and Google Voice integration.  Also, Palm announced that they’ll be announcing their first quarter 2010 results in September.  Finally, AOL is working on tighter Synergy integration.  As always, share your news stories with us or follow us on Twitter.
